Wapak Teen Arrested On Threat

WAPAKONETA — A Wapakoneta teen was arrested on Thursday on a charge of making a threat to a church.

According to a report from the Wapakoneta Police Department, at 1:28 p.m. Thursday, the police department received a report of a potential threat made towards a church located in the city of Wapakoneta. A male suspect had left message with a family member stating the threat. The suspect was upset over a post on Facebook in regard to the Pledge of Allegiance and the phrase “Under God.”

Officers started an investigation and the church that was named in the threat was contacted and advised of the situation. A warrant for arrest was obtained and at 4:47 p.m., the suspect was located at 9 Willipie St. in Wapakoneta and taken into custody without incident.

Benjamin R. Woolum, 19, 813 Gardenia Drive, Wapakoneta, was arrested on one count of making terroristic threats, a third-degree felony, and telephone harassment, a first-degree misdemeanor. He is being held at the Auglaize County Jail. Officers from the Auglaize County Drug Task Force assisted with the arrest.

The case remains under investigation.
