VOLLEYBALL ROUND-UP: St. Marys picks up win at Kenton, Rangers down Minster

ST. MARYS 3, KENTON 0: The St. Marys volleyball team opened Western Buckeye League play with a 25-19, 25-13, 25-16, win at Kenton on Thursday night. The Roughriders improved to 1-4 on the season and 1-0 in the WBL.

NEW KNOXVILLE 3, MINSTER 0:  New Knoxville emerged from a back-and-fort first game and then took control of its volleyball match at Minster on Thursday. The Rangers earned a 26-24, 25-23, 25-19 win over the Wildcats. Haley Horstman led New Knoxville with nine kills. Taylor Niemeyer and Paige Lehman  each had six kills apiece. Meg Reineke and Horstman each had 17 assists. Kalyn Schroer had 20 digs. Madison Lammers, Reineke and Horstman each had three aces apiece. Claire McGowan led Minster with 12 kills and 13 digs. Allison Jutte and Madelein Eiting each had four blocks. Regan Hahn had three aces for the Wildcats.

MARION LOCAL 3, NEW BREMEN 2: Once again the New Bremen Cardinals volleyball team was so close. The Marion Local Flyers, down two sets to one, came back and won the fourth and  fifth to win the match 22-25, 25-14, 21-26, 26-25 and 15-8 in a MAC contest played at New Bremen. Claire Heitkamp had 23 kills to lead the Flyers. For New Bremen, Victoria Wente had 11 kills while Haley Moeller and Julie Brown each had 9. Meagan Brandt had 18 digs. Haley Moeller had 14 digs. Karli Jones had 6 aces and 22 assists. Julie Brown had 6 blocks.
