“Before the match started we talked about playing each point like it was the last point,” Rangers head coach Jill Roode said. “We were playing like everything mattered and not playing from behind. The girls came out and executed what we talked about and played five points at a time.”
Haley Horstman led New Knoxville with seven kills. Rachel Leffel added four, Taylor Niemeyer had three and Meg Reineke had two kills for the Rangers.
An inexperienced St. Marys squad dropped to 0-4 on the season.
“We made a lot of mistakes tonight,” Riders head coach Trisha Rosenbeck said. “Our serve-receive wasn’t the best and we had a lot of serving errors so we have a lot of work to do.”
Kalyn Schroer led New Knoxville with 11 digs. Meg Reineke had 12 assists. Horstman, Madison Lammers and Paige Lehman each served up two aces for the Rangers.
In the JV game it went all three sets as St. Marys defeated the Rangers 25-15, 23-25 and 25-21.
The Rangers (2-2) open MAC play at Minster on Thursday, while the Riders (0-4) travel to Kenton on Thursday to open WBL play.
