Virginia Fledderjohann Stoeckel, 88

Virginia Fledderjohann Stoeckel, 88, of Kettering, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012.

She was born on March 20, 1923, in Linton, Ind., the daughter of the Rev. Adolph and Matilda (Meckstroth) Fledderjohann, and they preceded her in death.

On June 8, 1947, in New Knoxville, she married Bertram Stoeckel, and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by two children, Krysten Stoeckel of Tucson, Ariz., and Ed (Heidi) Stoeckel of Englewood, Colo.; two granddaughters, Amanda and Lauren Stoeckel of Englewood, Colo.; a sister, Roberta Tanzini of New Knoxville; a very dear friend, Phyllis Grace Johnson of Miamisburg; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Letha Harig; her twin brothers, Gilbert and Milbert, who died in infancy.

She graduated from New Knoxville High School in 1941, attended Bowling Green State University and graduated from Miami Valley School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She was employed for many years at Miami Valley and Kettering Hospitals.

She was a cadet Army nurse during World War II at Crile Hospital in Cleveland.

She was active in her Oak Creek Church and the Miami Valley Hospital Nurses Alumni Association. Virginia was a willing volunteer, always helping others, and loved her family.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 21 at Oak Creek United Church of Christ, 5280 Bigger Road, Kettering.

Burial was held on Monday, Jan. 23 at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery in New Knoxville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Oak Creek United Church of Christ.
