Village, Hoge To Renew Deal

December 12, 2012

NEW KNOXVILLE — The New Knoxville Electrical Department plans to renew a contract with Hoge Lumber to buy surplus electricity for the village during peak usage hours.

Village Administrator Rex Katterheinrich said the lumber company is a large power user but also uses its wood as fuel to generate electricity.

The contract has minor modifications this year, including a stipulation that during peak hours, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., the village will buy electricity at the same price they pay to American Municipal Power.

“It’s a very nice arrangement, actually,” Katterheinrich said. “The electricity stays here. It goes all around New Knoxville.”

He plans to bring the renewal to councilors for approval in a future meeting.

In other business, councilors approved the second reading of 2013 pay ordinances giving full-time employees a 2 percent raise, the first raise in two years. An amendment was also made to the ordinance to change the mileage stipend from 51 cents per mile to 56.5 cents per mile. Councilors also approved 2013 appropriations; the third reading for the appropriations is scheduled for a year-end meeting at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 27 at the village hall.

A second reading of an ordinance to give employees a $50 stipend for prescription safety glasses if needed and a $275 budget for cold weather clothes passed unanimously, as did the second reading of the income tax allocations to pay bills for 2013.

A public hearing is scheduled at 7 p.m. Jan. 8 to split one lot into two lots.

The next regular meeting of the New Knoxville Village Council is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8.
