NEW BREMEN — With sashes on, balloons in place and family and friends settled in their seats, the 2008 Little Miss Bremenfest pageant was set to take the stage.
“We have 14 girls this year, ranging in age from 4 to 6 years old and they are all from New Bremen” pageant committee chair Janet Stienecker said.” The pageant kicked off with an introduction of 2007 Little Miss Bremenfest Diana Heitkamp. As one of her last walks across the stage, Diana led the 2008 contestants out onto the stage. The girls came out with smiles on their faces telling the audience about themselves. When asked what she has done this summer, 5-year-old Madison Cordonnier, daughter of Casey and Stephanie Cordonnier, said she went on vacation to Florida. Solly Schulze, 6, daughter of Dennis and Pam Schulze, said she played with her brother and sister. The pageant continued with a dance performance by the girls to “We’re All in This Together,” and then to the “Chicken Dance” with the audience dancing along. Stienecker told The Evening Leader one thing that would enhance the program from years past was that there are acts this year. The added acts included a tap dance by Lynda Davis’ New Bremen School of Dance to “Twilight Zone,” and another dance performance to “What time is it?”. Other highlights of the evening included revisiting queens, a visit from 2007 Bremenfest Queen Danielle Bronkema and a vocal performance by Dana Rhoades to the song “Greatest Love of All.” The 2008 contestants continued the evening with a modeling and interview competition. The girls ended the pageant with a dance performance celebrating New Bremen’s 175 birthday, wearing birthday hats and holding maracas. “The girls seemed to have more experience in the dancing so that was a lot of fun”, committee member Laurie Nosek said. “It was fun seeing a lot of the girls that were in it last year.” The night came to a close, but not with a winner. The 2008 contestants have to wait until the Bremenfest opening ceremony Aug. 15 to find out who is crowned Little Miss Bremenfest. The girls don’t seem to be too worried about it though. Miranda Scheib said she’s just excited to ride the rides and play in the park. “She’s most excited to ride in the parade,” said Stephanie Scheib, Miranda’s mother. The crowning of the winner from Tuesday night’s pageant and the Miss Bremenfest pageant, which will take place Thursday, will be during the opening ceremony of Bremenfest at 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Crown Pavilion. The 34th Annual Bremenfest will run Aug. 15 -17.
