Martha M. Hoelscher, 87, 11008 Kettlersville Road, New Knoxville, died at 8:05 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, at the Golden Living Center St. Marys, following a short illness. She was born Sept. 5, 1920, in New Knoxville, a daughter of Henry and Viola (Henkener)Lammers and they preceded her in death.
On June 18, 1942, she married Elmer Hoelscher, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 2007.
She is survived by two children, Jerry (Judy) Hoelscher of New Knoxville, and Marsha Hayes of New Knoxville; three grandchildren, Shannon (Shawn) Spencer of Waterville, Dionna (Ron) Duncan of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Denis (Natalie) Baker of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Chloe, Sam, Lydia, Grace, Rhys, Logan and Seth; a sister, Jo Ann (Vernon) Feldwisch of New Knoxville; a sister-in-law, Wilma Lammers of New Knoxville.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Lammers.
She was a 1938 graduate of New Knoxville High School and a graduate of Bowling  Green State University. She was a retired elementary school teacher. She taught for two years in Wayne, and then served for 28 years at Moulton Elementary School, as part of the St. Marys City School System.
She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading, traveling and square dancing. In past years she had belonged to the New Knoxville Community Singers. She was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother.
Funeral rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, with the Very Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, in the Heritage Room of the First United Church of Christ, where memorial donations may be directed to the Radio Broadcast Fund of the Church.
Condolences may be conveyed to the family via millerfuneralhomes.net. Arrangements are by Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home, New Knoxville.
