By KAY LOUTH Staff Writer ST. MARYS — The search for the new St. Marys School District superintendent has been narrowed down to two candidates and search committee members say they hope to be able to present a final candidate to Board of Education members next week.
Twenty applicants for the position were weeded down to five people. Board members, Treasurer Tom Sommer and Business Manager Kurt Kuffner conducted interviews with those five applicants and narrowed the list down to two — Van Wert Middle School Principal Mary Riepenhoff and Montpelier High School Principal Ed Ewers “They’re both viable candidates,” Sommer said. The two candidates were in town Monday night for further interviews, Sommer said. During the interview process, which was held in executive session, Riepenhoff and Ewers also met with some the district’s stakeholders such as the superintendent’s administrative assistant, teachers, staff members and members of the public. Those included a county commissioner, a former principal, the human resource manager of a local manufacturer and a minister. “They were allowed to ask questions (of the candidates) and they provided feedback to the board,” Sommer said. Sommer said the candidates’ names have been turned over to the personnel committee for further evaluation and negotiations. The personnel committee consists of board president Ralph Wiley, board member Rees McKee, Sommer and Kuffner. Sommer said the personnel committee hopes to present its final choice to the board of education at the July 7 board meeting for a hiring decision. |
