By B.J. BETHEL Assistant Managing Editor NEW BREMEN — Summer time is here, meaning sun, fun, yard work, burgers on the grill and the sudden growth of orange construction barrels throughout the area.
The barrels are popping up in New Bremen, where the village and other local entities hope to get in work while the weather calls for it. Work is progressing at the new Crown office building located at North Franklin Street. The building, being constructed where the old Howell’s IGA building located, has been progressing since last year. Additions to the building include a parking lot, which Crown will split use with a local funeral home. “The concrete work is done,” Village Administrator Wayne York said. “The asphalt paving will be done in the next week or two. Work began last fall with the underground work and new sewers were done before the winter.” The building combines several old structures with the new portion of the building, which faces North Franklin Street. The buildings were part of the old Howell’s IGA and two older storefronts. Cleanup of the piping from the Miami-Erie Canal under Ohio 66 was slowed due to the heavy rains several weeks ago. Crews were unable to get into the pipes until water levels dropped. They were able to work on the area this week. Work on the pipes will allow cleanup to begin at elsewhere. “The work by the Rotary Club Park can’t start until the sewers are done,” York said. Crews are also expected to work on the sewers running under Ohio 274. Roadwork will be done in the Teton Subdivision at Front and Deer Streets. The streets will be finished by October. The Ohio Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing portions of Ohio 66 south of New Bremen near Ohio 119. |
