From Staff Reports NEW BREMEN — Maria Staton struck out seven and walked just one in a complete-game shutout performance as New Bremen blanked previously unbeaten Covington, 4-0.
“Maria threw excellent,” New Bremen coach Craig Griesdorn said. Catcher Elly Cisco went two-for-three with a triple and a run batted in. Griesdorn was happy with his team’s execution offensively, especially after the week-long lay off because of the weather. Not that the Cardinals and Buccs escaped the snow on Monday. Flurries flew throughout the game. “We worked on fundamentals (during the week off),”Griesdorn said. “We did all we could to work on situations and the basics.” Sara Rutschilling went one-for-three, Stacy Timmerman went one-for-three, and Kate Wente collected a hit in three at bats for the Cards. “We were able to get some bunts down and score on some wild pitches,” Griesdorn said. “ In the game of softball, that’s what you have to do to win these games.” BOX SCORE R H E COV 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 2 NB 0 0 2 0 1 1 X 4 6 0 W-Staton (7IP, 7SO, 0R, 1BB)
