CELINA — A wellness opportunity has once again arrived for area residents to participate in this weekend.
Joint Township District Memorial Hospital will offer another round of its health fair from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Auglaize/Mercer Family YMCA. “Our last one was in November in Minster,” Joint Township District Memorial Hospital Outreach Coordinator Anne Larger said. “It went very well.” Larger said having it on Saturday is good timing with the arrival of the new year. “We just thought we would have a health fair at the beginning of the year to help people with their new year’s resolutions and provide as many wellness opportunities as we can at the beginning of the year,” Larger said. “Because we have the Grand Health Challenge and the Road to Fitness and the Winter Hike is also Jan. 9.” During the health fair, residents can take advantage of free health screenings including osteoporosis, eye, blood pressure, foot, Dermascan, glucose, body composition and chair massages. Residents also will be able to take advantage of other screenings that will have additional costs including a complete blood count, hemoglobin, chemistry panel and a thyroid screening, among others. “We just want to provide an opportunity for people to stay on target, to provide a way to getting numbers,” Larger said. “Everyone should know their numbers, cholesterol — both good cholesterol and bad cholesterol, blood pressure.” Larger also revealed the procedure for the blood test that will be taken at the health fair. “That blood test is not a conclusive test,” Larger said. “They will need to take that number to their physician and he will do the rest of the testing.” Other numbers that Larger said residents should be aware of were PSAs for men and a body fat composition for men and women. Larger also said the health fair is good timing for those kicking off the Grand Health Challenge. “I think it’s a great way to start out their challenge,” Larger said. “We live in Ohio, we need to embrace our winters, it’s not an excuse to stay inside. Bundle up, protect yourself against the environment but get outside and walk or hike.” She also stressed the importance of making a change in lifestyle, not just starting a diet. “I think it’s important that people adapt a healthy lifestyle,” Larger said.
