Councilors OK Contracts Print E-mail
Wednesday, 25 November 2009

NEW BREMEN — Local councilors approved contracts for the next year in the village during their meeting Tuesday night. New Bremen Village Councilors approved the first reading of the contracts for the village solicitor and magistrate.
Mayor Jeff Pape said the contract for Village Solicitor Steve Smith included an increase to $70.
"It's $10 per hour for the next two years," Pape said.
The contract runs from Jan. 1, 2010, to Dec. 31, 2011, and he started as solicitor with the village in 1986.
Village Councilors also approved the first reading of the magistrate contract with Robert Kehoe to serve in New Bremen Mayor's Court.
Pape also noted a blurb he put in the village newsletter.
"It gives the town a chance to drop in any ideas for the village of New Bremen," he said.
The suggestions are ideas for the village's 2010 capital plans.
Village Administrator Wayne York updated councilors on construction projects throughout New Bremen.
"Two alleys are completely finished," York said. "The third is taking longer — the clock has been ticking — it will be finished in spring."
He also noted the lights at the village's tennis courts will be on until Monday.
New Bremen Police Chief Doug Harrod told councilors about the department's ride program if residents have had too much to drink.
"We offer a ride home," he said. "We'd much rather see us take somebody home than see an accident or have to arrest someone for an OVI."
In other business, councilors:
• Approved an ordinance, as an emergency, of transfers from the Income Tax Fund.
• Approved a resolution, as an emergency, a resolution approving a change order to Midwest Electric for an increase in $983.31 for additional gravel on the site of the White Mountain Substation.
• Approved the second reading of an ordinance approving Meldahl/Greenup Hydroelectric Project participation.
• Approved the second reading of a resolution approving a change order for an increase $29,386.55 to CDA Construction Inc. to correct soft roadway base for the Fox and Elk projects.
• Awarded the water treatment salt bids for North American Salt for $88/ton and the sodium hypochlorite bids for $1.25 per gallon to Miami Products and Chemical.
• Approved a resolution to award Grace Quality Used Cars for the police department's 2005  Ford Crown Victoria for $1,146.
• Approved the Auglaize County Solid Waste Plan.
• Approved the first reading of a resolution approving a change order in the amount of $6,318 for Tom's Construction for Rotary Centennial Park.
Councilors then entered into executive session to discuss personnel pertaining to an annual cost of living adjustment.
When they reconvened in regular session, councilors decided not to award a cost of living increase.
The next council meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8
