NEW KNOXVILLE — The New Knoxville Village Councilors gathered Tuesday evening to approve a list of ordinances in preparation for 2010. Councilors approved two new firefighters to join the ranks of the New Knoxville-Washington Township Fire Department.
"We are not at full roster yet," Fire Chief Scott Schroer said. "This will put us at 24, a full roster is 25."
Schroer said the two new additions to the department include Michael Wood and John Dircksen, both of New Knoxville.
"They were worthy applicants," Schroer said. "They will get training in 2010."
An additional ordinance the councilors passed was a second reading to authorize the participation with AMP regarding the Meldahl and Green-up Hydroelectric projects participation. Village Administrator Jeff Eschmeyer said the ordinance is one that involves the village participating in a project to create affordable power to the residents.
"It is a long-term power supply that will make sure we are getting as reasonable prices as possible," Eschmeyer said.
He said there are currently three projects planned and the second reading of the ordinance will allow for two additional projects.
The projects include hydroelectric dams along the Ohio River, which the village has a stake in.
"It allows us to acquire a percentage of the electricity," Eschmeyer said. "It is 300 kw per year."
It other business, councilors:
• Transferred $15,266.22 from Water Fund to Note Retirement fund for fiscal year 2010, first reading.
• Waived the second and third readings of all pay ordinances for 2010, first reading.
• Transferred $62,000 from General Fund to Sinking Fund for (Industrial Park) debt payment, first reading.
• Established village employee wages for 2010, first reading.
• Approved the hiring of a village solicitor, first reading.
• Set bond amounts, second reading and declare to waive the third reading.
• Approved Auglaize County Waste Management plan update.
The councilors entered executive session, no action was taken when the council reconvened to regular session.
The next meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8.
The year end meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 29.
