ST. MARYS — Three candidates were elected to fill seats on a local
school board after local residents went out to the polls on Tuesday.
This graph shows the results of Tuesday's Board of Education race.
Lisa Tobin, Aaron Braun and Ralph Wiley will fill the seats of the St. Marys Board of Education after being elected. Tobin, who won with 2,402 unofficial votes, said she was happy with the results. "It feels pretty good," Tobin told The Evening Leader. "I'm kind of floored by the numbers." Tobin said she was excited to be continuing another term on the board. "I'm very thankful for the support," she said. Tobin, who works as an early intervention specialist for the Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities, resides at 220 Walnut St. This will be her second term serving on the St. Marys Board of Education. "I was feeling pretty calm, pretty good," Tobin said of the time before the results were available on Tuesday. "I tried not to think about it a whole lot — I figured it'll be what was meant to be." Aaron Braun, who works at Midmark in Versailles and who lives at 238 S. Wayne St., was elected Tuesday to serve his first term on the board. "I feel excited," Braun said of the results. "It feels great." Going into Election Day, Braun, who won his seat with 2,076 votes, said he was nervous. "I was not quite sure how it was going to turn out," he said. "I was wondering if I reached everyone I wanted to." As the election results neared closer, Braun said he became more excited. "I kept calling the Elections Board to get results," he said. "I'm pretty excited." Wiley, who works at Murotech Ohio Corp. in St. Marys, nabbed the third open seat Tuesday with 2,012 votes. "I'm excited to continue another four years serving the community," he said. "I'm excited to complete the projects and to continue with everything going on with St. Marys City Schools." Wiley described his emotions going into Election Day as "anxious." "I was just anxious to have it over," he said. "It's the first time I've been an incumbent." This will be Wiley's, who resides at 123 Augustus St., second term on the St. Marys Board of Education. "Overall, I'm very happy just to get to serve the city of St. Marys again," he said. The three candidates topped incumbent candidate Eric Langsdon who received 1,839 votes. The results from Tuesday's election will be certified Nov. 18.
