Robert E. Snyder, 77, of St. Marys, and Inverness, Fla. (formerly of Celina and Union City) died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, while on vacation in Bammental, Germany.
He was born Jan. 23, 1932, in Ansonia, a son to Charles E. and Blanche M. (Dillon) Snyder. On Aug. 1, 1957, in Liberty, Ind., he married Carol L. Alt, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Guy (Emiko) Snyder of Lebanon, Cassandra (Ron) Dorsten of Celina, Rhett (Cindy) Snyder of Celina, Christine (Joe) Acker of Inverness, Fla., Todd (Cindy) Snyder of Anna, Roberta (Todd Richardson) Snyder of Grand Island, Neb., Valerie (David) Richard of Westerville; 23 grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Schneider of Urbana, Etta (Gene) Hart of Union City, Ind., Marjorie Morse of Union City, Ind.; a brother, William (Marilyn) Snyder of Knoxville, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Anne Boze. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a military policeman during the Korean War. He retired after 30 years from the Westinghouse Corp. in Lima, where he worked in quality control. He and his wife were the proprietors of Snyder Travel Agency. In addition, he had operated an excavating business in Union City and an upholstery shop in Celina. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus - Council 1800, both in Celina and the Tri-Squares dance club in St. Marys. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and square dancing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial, with full military graveside rites, will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday, at the Miller Funeral Home and Cremation Service 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West), in St. Marys. Memorial contributions may be directed to either, Immaculate Conception St.Vincent DePaul Society or St. Teresa’s Catholic Church.
