Board OKs Paving Work Print E-mail
Tuesday, 15 September 2009

NEW BREMEN — The Auglaize County Board of Developmental Disabilities awarded a paving bid for work at one of its sites during its meeting Monday night. Board members approved Gavit Paving Inc., of North Star, the rest of the work at the Auglaize Industries parking lot, Transportation Committee member David Axe said.
“We’re going to proceed with the rest of the parking lot,” Axe said, adding the section to finish is from the dock to the street.
Axe said there were three bids for the work — Lima Asphalt with a bid of $7,750, Buehler Asphalt Paving Inc. of St. Marys with a bid of $4,500 and Gavit with a bid of $5,075.
He also said the committee is looking at purchasing new vans for the workshop because the vans currently in use have mileage more than 123,000 miles and are starting to show wear and tear.
“Five of the vehicles are over 10 years old,” committee member Aaron Homan said.
Brenda Winner, with community services, updated the board on the 75 rest area project.
“There was no supervision at the rest area and we pulled out,” she said.
Victor Geib, also with community services, said the agency is waiting to hear on the response for their five year award of excellence.
Superintendent Al Willis told board members the agency has taken steps to prevent H1N1 at its facilities.
“Hand washing is the big thing,” Willis said, adding sanitizer gel was distributed to all staff members, as well. “We’ve also sent out a reminder. We’ve talked with the staff — if you’re ill, don’t come to work.”
Willis said the agency is looking into when the vaccination becomes available what can be done.
“The idea is to protect our children, clients and our staff,” he said, noting the vaccination would be an opportunity, not a requirement for the individuals.
Board members also:
• Motioned to accept the vouchers.
• Motioned to send Willis, as a delegate, for the OACB Annual Convention Delegate Assembly.
The board went into executive session to discuss legal actions against the board and no action was taken when the board reconvened into regular session. The next meeting of the Auglaize County Board of Developmental Disabilities is 7:15 p.m. Oct. 12 at the ABC Center.
