Sale set for next week Print E-mail
Friday, 14 August 2009

ST. MARYS — Thousands of items will be up for grabs as the duo heading the Turnaround Tots consignment sale continue to plan next week’s sale. Shelley Henschen and Jenni Egbert started the sale in April, offering low prices to shoppers for gently-used children’s clothing and accessories.
“It was a really big success, we sold probably 80 to 85 percent of our inventory,” Henschen said. “We didn’t hear any negative feedback and most of our consignors were really happy.”
Henschen said planning for the fall sale began once she and Egbert saw the success the spring sale.
“We had tons of people sign up to be on our mailing list,” Henschen said. “The venue worked out extremely well, with the location and the facility itself was nice. This time we are opening up the back room to make a little more room.”
The sale will again contain children’s clothing, toys, books and larger items for local residents to look over.
“We are expecting 2,000 to 3,000 extra items at the fall sale,” Henschen said. “Right now we have about 6,000 items and the consignors still have almost a week to register items. We are hoping for about 8,500 to 9,000 items this time.”
She said registration for consignors closes Tuesday at midnight.
“That is the last time to enter inventory,” Henschen said. “We also still have some volunteer slots open if anyone would like to get a presale opportunity before the general public. They can go online and look for volunteer shifts.”
Henschen said set up will begin Wednesday night for the sale and the presale for consignors and volunteers will be held Thursday.
“The public is welcome Friday at 8 a.m.,” Henschen said.
Following the spring sale, one thing Henschen and Egbert said they learned was they needed more checkout lanes — an addition that has been made for the fall sale.
“We have more lap tops and we bought more scanners,” Henschen said. “We will probably have five checkouts this time to try and get people through there a little faster.”
Another addition that has been made for the fall sale includes clothing items for juniors.
“Both girls and boys and we have name brands — Aeropostale, Abercrombie and Fitch, Gap, Old Navy, Hollister and American Eagle,” Henschen said. “Hopefully in future sales we will get teenagers and their parents a little more involved.”
Henschen said with the sale being Aug. 21 and 22, it’s a good time for back to school purchases before local children go back to school Aug. 25.
“We have timed it pretty well,” Henschen said. “But we didn’t limit the items to fall and winter. We will have tons of summer stuff but there will also be winter coats and jackets, jeans and long sleeve shirts.”
Henschen said she and Egbert have high hopes for the sale and hope it continues to grow.
“We would like to do a little bit of expanding — it’s everything we thought it would be,” Henschen said. “We hope it keeps getting bigger by the sale.”
The Turnaround Tots sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 21 and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 22, at Easy Campground off of U.S. 33. Many items will be half-off starting at 3 p.m. Aug. 22. More information on the consignment sale can be found at www.turnaroundtots.com.
