By ANGELA WEAVER Staff Writer ST. MARYS — A local organization will go to the cats as a fundraiser beginning this weekend.
The St. Marys Band Parents Organization is selling Cat’s Meow wooden replicas of the 1923 Memorial High School building during SummerFest, Instructor Dane Newlove said, adding that it is a new feature during the festival. “Someone in the Band Parents Organization thought it would be a good fundraiser for our organization,” Newlove said of how the fundraiser developed. The miniature 1923 building is matched to each detail of the original building and features the signature Cat’s Meow black cat in the front. Friday through Sunday during SummerFest, the replicas will be available for $15 each at the Band Parents Pork Barn building. “We’ll have them until we sell out,” Newlove said. “We can order more throughout the year.” The miniatures will also be available in the main concession stand at each home football game, Minster State Bank, St. Marys Chamber of Commerce, Memorial High School office or by contacting 419-394-8852. During SummerFest, the Band Parents Organization will also be taking orders for Riverside Bluesfest tickets at $15 each, earning a $5 per ticket commission. The tickets during the event, which will take place from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 5 and 6 in K.C. Geiger Park, sell for $20 each. “The Band Parents Organization helps to fund all the different bands in grades five to 12,” Newlove said, adding they help fund instruments and uniforms. “They fund any other items the bands need.” Newlove said the Cat’s Meow 1923 Memorial High School buildings can be gifts for those of all ages. “They make great Christmas and graduation presents,” he said. |
