By MIKE BURKHOLDER Managing Editor ST. MARYS — An Arcanum man faces abduction charges for allegedly chasing his girlfriend into St. Marys from Celina.
Paul D. Wysong III, 33, is being held on $250,000 bond with a 10 percent cash provision after being charged with two counts of abduction, third-degree felonies, and domestic violence by force or threat, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. The court also issued a temporary protection order against Wysong. The charges stemmed from an incident that took place at 8:48 p.m. Wednesday in the Kroger parking lot. According to court documents, Wysong’s girlfriend met him in Celina to end their relationship. Wysong reportedly became angry and tried to bust out the windows of the woman’s vehicle and threatened to slash her tires. Wysong also sat on the woman’s vehicle in an effort to prevent her from leaving. However she drove off, eventually heading east on Ohio 29. Wysong reportedly caught up to the woman, pulling in front of her at the St. Marys/Spencerville exit ramp. Wysong blocked the woman’s vehicle, so she drove in reverse on the ramp. The woman was reportedly able to pull around Wysong’s vehicle and into the Kroger parking lot. While in the parking lot, Wysong again blocked her from leaving, circling the vehicle in the process. A witness, who followed the two vehicles, reportedly saw what was going on and called 911. Officers from the St. Marys Police Department eventually arrested Wysong on the charges. “He was not combative,” Sgt. Tim Eberle said. “There also was no pursuit by law enforcement.” Wysong is scheduled to appear in court at 2:45 p.m. Friday for a preliminary hearing. Since he is charged with felonies, further prosecution in the case must be done in Common Pleas Court. A case can make it into Common Pleas Court if a grand jury issues an indictment or a Municipal Court judge binds the case over following a preliminary hearing. If convicted, Wysong faces a maximum of three years in prison. |
