Kenneth R. Block, 55, 100 W. Spring St., Apt. 202, St. Marys, died at 1:11 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the Ross Heart Hospital, The Ohio State University, Columbus. He was born March 21, 1954, in Coldwater, a son of Francis and Rosemary (Stamm) Block.
He had previously been married to Judith Market and she survives in St. Marys.
He is survived by his two sons, Brian (Nickie Sweeney) Block of St. Marys, Kyle Block of St. Marys; a grandson, Clayton David Block; a stepgrandson, Brent David Thurman; his stepfather, Homer Sparks of St. Marys; a close friend, Rebel Richter of St. Marys.
He is survived by his siblings, Dale (Shirley) Block of Sidney, William Block of St. Marys, Dennis (Liz) Block of St. Marys, Anita
(Dave) Roediger of New Bremen, Richard (Veronica) Block of St. Marys.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a 1973 graduate of New Bremen High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served as a sergeant.
He had worked at the Huffy Corporation in Celina for many years.
He was the immediate past commander of American Legion Post 323 in St. Marys,
he was also the past commander of the Auglaize County Veterans’ Organization, where he had also served as chaplain. He enjoyed watching his kids participating in all kinds of sports, he enjoyed go- kart racing.
He was also an accomplished artist who worked in both oils and watercolors.
He enjoyed music and played the trombone and the organ.
Funeral rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, with the Rev. David Williams officiating. Full military burial honors will be held at noon Monday, at Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton, as conducted by the United States Marine Corps.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, where American Legion Post 323 will conduct memorial services at 7 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Auglaize County Special Olympics.
