The Rev. Walter G. Clausing, 102 Print E-mail

The Rev. Walter G. Clausing, 102, formerly of 820 Hillcrest Drive in St. Marys, died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the St. Marys Living Center. He was born Dec. 6, 1906, in Auglaize County, a son of Herman and Matilda (Howe) Clausing.
On June 12, 1938, he married Viola F. Haberkamp, who died Sept. 13, 1982.
He is survived by his caregivers, James and Eileen Wessel of St. Marys.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Noah Clausing, Persis Clausing, Florenz Clausing, Gustave Clausing, Edward Clausing; sisters, Magdalena Schultz, Lenora Custer.
He was a 1925 graduate of Memorial High School in St. Marys. He later entered Mission House College and Seminary, and was subsequently
ordained as a minister in 1938.
He served numerous churches in several states for the United Church of Christ denomination. Following his retirement from active ministry, he served as minister of visitation for the Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys.
He was a member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in St. Marys and the Emeritus club of Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wis.
Funeral services are scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in St. Marys, with the Rev. Dr. Ed Bray, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, near New Knoxville.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Miller – Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St. in St. Marys, and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to either Lakeland College, United Theological Seminary in Brighton, Minn., or the Gideons International.
