Joan F. Rammel, 78, of 314 Augustus St. in St. Marys, died at 10:25 a.m. Sunday June 28, 2009, at her residence.
She was born March 28, 1931, in Celina, a daughter to Andrew and Alma (Bertke) Niekamp. On May 20, 1950, in St.Henry, she married Maurice “Moe” Rammel, who died May 29, 2006. Her love lives on through the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Karen (Terry) Makley of Troy, a son Steven (Sandi) Rammel of New Bremen, a daughter, Mary (Scott) Kogge of St. Marys, a son, John (Kaye) Rammel of St. Marys, a daughter, Theresa (Doug) Riesen of St. Marys, a son Tom (Pam) Rammel of New Bremen, a daughter Lora (Bill) Krugh of St. Marys; 32 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother Paul Niekamp of St. Henry; a brother Tom (Mary) Niekamp of St. Henry; a brother, Andrew Niekamp of Kettering; two sisters, Phyllis (Joe) Miller of Battle Creek, Mich., Kathleen (Jerry) Pulskamp of New Bremen; a brother James (Margie) Niekamp of St. Henry. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister Ethel (Elmer) Rinderle; a brother Lester (Bev) Niekamp; an infant brother John Niekamp; a sister-in-law Dottie Niekamp. She was a 1949 graduate of St. Henry High School, where she was a cheerleader for four years. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and its choir, Altar Society, Legion of Mary, and was a Eucharistic minister and CCD teacher for many years. Joan was devout in her Catholic faith and devoted to her many friends, with whom she enjoyed playing cards. She also enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 511 E. Spring St. in St. Marys, with the Rev. Anthony E. Cutcher, celebrant. Burial will follow at the Gethsemane Cemetery, in St. Marys. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the Miller Funeral Home (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St. Marys.
