Wilma M. “Weedie” Brewer Derr, 92, of St. Marys, died at 4:05 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at Otterbein St. Marys. She was born May 22, 1917, in St. Marys, a daughter of William F. and Catherine “Kate” (Wilmes) Makley.
On Feb. 18, 1939, she married Lowell B. Brewer, he preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1977, she then married Robert E. Derr on Nov. 28, 1980, he preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 2004.
She is survived by her four sons, Bill (Mary Jo) Brewer of Parker, Colo., Nick (Annie) Brewer of West Chester, Dave (Laura) Brewer of Louisville, Ky., Dan (Trixie) Brewer of Centerville; two daughters, Bonnie Brewer of Birmingham, Ala., Nancy Harris of Delray Beach, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Mary (Bruce) Johnson of Whittier, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Andy (Irene) Makley of St. Marys; two sisters, Rosie Horn of St. Marys, Ruth Makley of St. Marys.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Marie Brewer; a son-in-law, Ebb Harris; four brothers, Clarence “Snuffy” Makley, Bill (Janie) Makley, George Makley and Carl “Shorty” (Beryl) Makley; a brother-in-law, Bud Horn.
After marrying Bob Derr, the couple moved to Newport Beach, Calif., where they resided until this death in 2004.
Weedie then moved to Otterbein of St. Marys and had lived there for the past four years.
She was a 1935 graduate of Memorial High School and a member of Holy Rosary Church.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, with the Rev. Anthony Cutcher officiating. Burial of cremated remains will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, at Fort Wayne Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Otterbein Retirement Community of St. Marys, 11230 St. Rt. 364, St. Marys 45885 or to Rosary Catholic Church, 511 E. Spring St., St. Marys 45885.
