John B. Moorman Sr., 68, 237 N. Spruce St., St. Marys, died at 11:28 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima. He was born March 18, 1941, in North Star, a son of John and Alvina (Schmalstig)Moorman.
On Sept. 10, 1965, he married Darlene J. Castle, she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his six children, Dawn (John) Kern of Sidney, Dianna (Dan) Jolly of Sidney, Deanna (Dan) Gates of St. Marys, Darla Moorman of Sidney, Lela (Bruce) Jones of Sidney, John B. (Mary) Moorman Jr. of St. Marys; 26 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, George Moorman of Sidney, Jerry Moorman of Sidney, Donald Moorman of Fort Loramie; two sisters, Mary Jane Sherman of Sidney, Patricia Moorman of Greenville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenny and Dicky Moorman; two sisters, Barbara and Alice Moorman.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War.
He retired from Hobart Corporation in Troy, where he had been a sheet metal specialist.
He was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney, a member of the DAV and American Legion, both in Sidney.
He enjoyed camping and fishing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, with the Rev. Anthony Cutcher officiating.
Private family burial rites will be held. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 323 and VFW Post 9289 on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Friends may call from noon until the time of services at the funeral home on Tuesday.
