ST. MARYS — Local residents passed through the aisles of the new Dollar Tree as corporate officials from the store and city officials celebrated the grand opening of the store in St. Marys Friday morning.
Regional Director Bill Munnerlyn said the group is excited about the new store in St. Marys and the possibilities that it brings to the city.
“We looked at it for about six or seven months and we really liked the center,” Munnerlyn said. “There are a good mix of tenants. It is a perfect fit for us, it compliments what we do.”
Zone Vice President Ken Ehli agreed with Munnerlyn and said the other businesses in the plaza will contribute to the success of the store.
“There are a lot of other national chains that help bring in good traffic,” Ehli said. “They will complement us and we will complement them.”
Munnerlyn said the company looks forward to serving the community and contributing to the local economy.
“Our goal is to enhance the shopping experience of the (customers),” Munnerlyn said. “We are employing about 15 people, so we have had somewhat of an impact on the unemployment number. As sales grow we will hire more, also during the holiday season we will hire more.”
Munnerlyn said after opening March 29, the first week has been successful and the community has been supportive of the business.
“It has absolutely exceeded my expectations,” Munnerlyn said. “We’ve done really well in the smaller communities.”
Munnerlyn said the success the store saw in its first week will be continued with the service it will provide.
“We will do it through great customer service, a good merchandise mix and the presentation of the merchandise,” Munnerlyn said.
Mayor Greg Freewalt was present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and said he looks forward to the business being in the plaza.
“It’s great to see new businesses in town,” Freewalt said. “Its good for all the businesses.”
He echoed Munnerlyn’s sentiments and said the store will be beneficial to everyone.
“It is beneficial to people in the community and other stores in town,” Freewalt said. “It will be more people circulating through.”
Overall, Freewalt said the opening of the store has started off well and he said he hopes that will continue.
“They said they started off great and we wish them the best of success,” Freewalt said.
