Village OKs Gazebo Bids Print E-mail
Thursday, 02 April 2009

NEW KNOXVILLE —New Knoxville Village Councilors approved and awarded bids for a project that would benefit a local park at a special meeting Wednesday night. The village received four bids for New Knoxville Park Gazebo and councilors voted to accept the bids and award Weigandt Development LTD — the apparent low bidder — the project.
Weigandt bid a $48,933, Westerheide Developers Inc bid a $49,550 bond, Baumer Construction Inc bid a $52,145 letter of credit and Preferred Builders Inc bid a $55,831.73 bond.
The bids received were within 10 percent of the engineer’s estimated, according to a document provided to the village from The M&K Engineering Co.
Village Administrator Jeff Eschmeyer said the village had originally budgeted approximately $45,000 for construction.
“Once we got into it, the ramp was required, which upped the cost and a few more items did, too,” Eschmeyer said.
The New Knoxville Community Parks Department said they would cover half of the project or up to $25,000, and the village also received a $1,000 donation from the New Bremen-New Knoxville Rotary to go toward the project.
Councilor Jeff Henschen had a few concerns with the economy regarding the gazebo project.
“It looks good — they came in cheap,” he said. “I’m trying to think of where we could use the $28,000 to 29,000 if we needed it somewhere else.”
Eschmeyer noted that now was a beneficial time to bid the project.
“If we are going to undertake the project, we probably won’t get it for less,” he said.
Eschmeyer also noted that the construction period would take an approximate 60 days, ending in the first two weeks in June.
“We should have it in place by the Fourth (of July),” he said.
New Knoxville Village Council’s next regularly scheduled meeting is slated for 6 p.m. April 14.
