Joseph M. Strader, 91, 1130 Hager St., St. Marys, died at 10:10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at the St. Marys Living Center.
He was born April 6, 1917, in West Carrollton, a son of Albert and Maude (Knight) Strader and they preceded him in death. On Aug. 25, 1956, he married Virginia Jacobs and she survives in St. Marys. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Jack (Donna) Jacobs of St. Marys; a nephew, David (Tammy) Jacobs of St. Marys. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Carl, Robert, Paul, Albert and James Strader; a sister, Elizabeth Ann Martin. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. He enlisted in the Air Corps at Patterson Field and was in the 9th Squadron. He served as a mess sergeant in England and France. He enjoyed sports and playing horseshoes in his young days. He was a life member of VFW Post 9289 in St. Marys, and he was a member of Eagles Lodge 691 in Wapakoneta. Funeral rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, with the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
