By ANGELA WEAVER Staff Writer ST. MARYS — Mothers can take their sons out Sunday evening to a dance sponsored by a local elementary school.
The West Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization is sponsoring its second mother and son dance, which will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Romer’s Catering in Celina. West PTO sponsored a father and daughter dance last month. “It’s a sports theme for the boys,” PTO Vice President Shelley Sharpin said, adding that the dance is more casual for the mother and son dance. “They can wear their favorite jersey.” She said the PTO has received approximately 60 reservations for Sunday’s dance, adding that they encourage reservations so that Romer’s knows how many people to expect. “We encourage reservations, but we will take additional guests at the door,” Sharpin said. “It’s for the boys and their moms or their favorite guardian.” For those who do not have a reservation but still want to take part in the dance, they can pay $15 per couple and $5 for each additional son for that family. Sharpin said the dance is similar to the father and daughter dance, with the guests most likely participating in the Hokey Pokey and Electric Slide. “They can get a picture taken with their sons,” she said, adding that the couples can take the picture home with them. In addition to the entertainment, Romer’s will provide snacks, like chips and pretzels, and drinks. “It looks like we’re going to have better weather than we did for the girls’ dance,” Sharpin said, adding that the weather was cold and snowy the day of the father and daughter dance. “It still had a lot of people, though.” The PTO helps purchase items for the school and holds various events for fundraisers. Currently, Sharpin said the PTO is holding its peeler sale and will be selling flowers in the spring. “The spring flower sale is coming up,” she said. “We sell flowers for Mother’s Day.” The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. |
