By KATIE YANTIS Staff Writer ST. MARYS — Motorists traveling down Waesch Road found a detour following a Monday morning train derailment.
Auglaize County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director Troy Anderson responded Monday morning to Waesch Road after he received the call regarding the derailment at 11:55 a.m. Monday. “It’s not too bad,” Anderson said of the incident. “As long as it doesn’t roll over, we are fine.” The RJ Corman locomotive was believed to have been hauling scrap metal from Precision Strip in Minster when it derailed. After receiving the notification, Anderson said the fire department and schools were notified of the derailment, which caused the closure of Waesch Road. Anderson said crews working on the derailment reported that it should be cleaned up this afternoon. “They have a really nice crew to come out,” Anderson said. As of Monday evening, Anderson said the cause was undetermined. “They are still investigating that,” Anderson said. “RJ Corman is out working on it once they get the train back on the tracks they will be able to tell what caused the derailment.” The derailment is one among a few that happened in the area in recent years. “This is our fourth one total,” Anderson said. “That would be the second one with them (RJ Corman) so far and two with CSX in the last couple of years.” No injuries were reported in the incident. |
