Roy Burton Houseworth, 87, 2125 Deerfield Court, St. Marys, died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born June 10, 1921, in Carrollton, Mo., a son of Cliffton and Jettie (Evans) Houseworth and they preceded him in death.
On Oct. 23, 1948, he married Phoebe Leeth and she survives at the residence.
He is survived by six sons, Roy (Donna) Houseworth of Casselberry, Fla., Clifton (Cecelia) Houseworth of St. Marys, Randolph (Jane) Houseworth of New Bremen, Jeffrey (Sheila) Houseworth of Celina, Christopher (Pam) Houseworth of new Bremen, Kelly (Liz) Houseworth of New Bremen; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; a sister, Freeda Smart of Carrollton, Mo.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Houseworth.
He attended high school in Wakenda, Mo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in the European Theatre during World War II.
He retired from the village of New Bremen, where he had also served as superintendent of the Light and Water Department.
He was a member of the St. Marys Men’s Garden Club for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and raccoon hunting. He was a member of the American Legion Post 323 in St. Marys.
Private family funeral rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, with the Rev. Frank Casey officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, where American Legion Post 323 and VFW Post 9289 will conduct military burial rites.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Rita’s Hospice, in care of Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, Ohio 45885.
