CELINA — Halloween is a great time to curl up with a scary movie or enjoy a favorite urban legend. Recently, students at Wright State University Lake Campus shared some of their favorite haunts and movies. “I’m into older classic movies (like) “The Changeling,”  Bill Walker of Greenville said of the 1980s thriller starring George C. Scott. Walker said he also enjoyed the movie “The Ring.”
The math major said that three summers ago, he and his wife had a strange experience one night while sitting on a bridge on Palmer Road near Mendon. The couple heard old time music reminiscent of the 1930s and 1940s.
“We heard it — we explained it away on a radio, but there were no houses in the area,” he said.
Versailles resident Katrina Hammaker said she grew up hearing stories about a house located on the outskirts of Versailles that was rumored to have a connection to the Underground Railroad.
“Supposedly the Jamison Mansion is haunted because it used to be part of the Underground Railroad — lost souls from the Underground Railroad that are still there today.” Hammaker said.
Middle childhood education major Elizabeth Schoenherr said she enjoyed curling up with a scary movie.
“I like Freddy Krueger movies,” she said of the main character from the popular “A Nightmare on Elm Street” series. “Thirteen Ghosts, that’s a good movie.”
Friend Kaye Hemmelgarn, an administrative assistant major, was not as excited about frightening movies.
“I hate scary movies,” she said.
