Video Tour Planned To Promote St. Marys

August 16, 2013

ST. MARYS — In an effort to continue to market the city of St. Marys, the community will once again be highlighted in a series of videos that will appear online.

St. Marys Development Manager Susan Crotty is working with CGI Communications to produce video tour books for the city that will appear on Relocate.org, a website that provides information to those who are looking to move. The video, once completed, also will be available of the city’s website.

“We are adding to our video library,” Crotty said. “They will produce three to four short videos ... We’ll be working with them to produce them over the next couple of months. There will be a welcome and overview of the city, one about real estate and relocation and generally speaking, about the quality of life in the city.”

The 90-second videos will be produced at no cost to the city. CGI Communications will solicit advertisers to pay for the production costs.

“It’s something we will be able to utilize and it will add to our marketing tools,” Crotty said. “It also enhances our website.”

The videos come on the heels of one that will soon be aired nationally on the Discovery Channel. The city was the subject of an episode of “Today in America.” The St. Marys episode is scheduled to air at 7 a.m. Wednesday on the Discovery Channel.

“I am so very pleased with the first video,” Crotty said of the production. “It is a testament to the importance of marketing given the presence of the Internet. It made the rounds very quickly via Facebook and YouTube to a lot of residents and people in the community, and to people outside the community.”

Another marketing tool, a digital sign that has been proposed to be built along U.S. 33, is still in the planning stages.

“We think the best way to get the quality bids that we want is to have detailed drawings prepared and then have it bid out,” Crotty said. “So it’s going to take a little more time. We are working with an architect to have some drawings prepared. Once those are completed, we can solicit bids.”

Crotty said construction should still begin by the end of the year.
