Vernon A. Hartings, 80, of 7351 Ohio 119, St. Rose, died at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at his residence.

He was born on Feb. 28, 1932, in St. Rose, to John and Bernadine (Leugers) Hartings, and they preceded him in death.

On Sept. 5, 1953, he married Alberta Ranly, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 8, 1982. On Nov. 4, 1989, he married Arlene Wolaver, and she survives in St. Rose. 

He is also survived by his children, Deb Brown of Chickasaw, Diana (Nicholas) Bruggeman of Cranberry Prairie, Kevin (Sandy) Hartings of Maria Stein and Jeff (Joyce) Hartings of St. Rose; his stepchildren, Kyle (Nancy) Plattner of Fort Loramie and Karen (Brian) Cron of Piqua; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four siblings; three in-laws.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Hartings; seven siblings; two in-laws.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Rose Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gene Schnipke officiating. Burial will take place in St. Rose Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
