Updated: Shell Station Robbed

October 10, 2012

ST. MARYS — Officers continue to investigate the robbery of a local gas station Tuesday night.

At 5:52 p.m., officers from the St. Marys Police Department arrived at the Shell gas station, 1115 Celina Road, on a report of a robbery. The suspect — a medium build, dark-complected white male with facial hair standing 5’11” to 6 feet tall, who was wearing a blue and gold hooded sweatshirt and grey shorts — demanded money from the clerk and indicated he had a weapon.

“He indicated he had a gun under his clothing,” St. Marys Police Sgt. Mark Ernst told The Evening Leader, noting he did not brandish the weapon at any time. “We do have video surveillance, which we are reviewing at this time. We have shared the information with other area law enforcement officials so if it rings a bell, they can contact us.”

The suspect walked away with an undisclosed amount of money. After fleeing the store, the suspect entered a newer model, four-door truck that was maroon in color. A second male was in the truck, but officers were unable to obtain a description of that subject.

“We did have other witnesses in the area,” Ernst said. “They were able to provide part of the description of the suspect.”

Ernst said the suspect drew the hood of his sweatshirt tightly over his head, which concealed part of his face. No one was injured during the incident.

“The employee did well,” Ernst said. “She complied with his orders and did what he said. We are talking about money here, and there is no reason to put your life in danger for money or property. She immediately contacted us afterward.”

Anyone with information should contact the St. Marys Police Department at 419-394-2325.
