NEW BREMEN — Two people have died as a result of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle collision near New Bremen Thursday night.
According to a report from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at approximately 5:01 p.m. Thursday, a 2006 Honda Ridgeline that was operated by Joan Shoffner, 83, of Sidney, was traveling south on Ohio 364. Shoffner failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and traveled into the path of an eastbound vehicle and was struck in the passenger side.
A 2004 Dodge Neon was being operated by Ron Brown Jr., 26, of St. Marys, and was traveling eastbound on Ohio 219. Brown's vehicle struck the Honda in the right side, causing both vehicles to travel into a ditch at the southeast corner of the intersection.
The Honda had two passengers inside — the right front passenger was Phyllis Slife, 81, of Sidney. Slife suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The rear passenger, Abigail Hale, 42, of Sidney, was ejected from the vehicle and later died at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Brown and Shoffner suffered incapacitating injuries and were taken to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys and were later flown to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.
The collision remains under investigation and St. Marys Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
