TRACK: St. Marys 4th, 5th at Celina; Minster wins Versailles Boys Invite
CELINA — The St. Marys girls track team finished fourth and the Roughrider boys were fifth at the Celina Invitational on Saturday afternoon, while Celina swept the boys (140 points) and girls (191 points) titles in the six-team, All-WBL team event.
“Both teams did a great job, especially since we have had limited time on the track due to weather,” St. Marys head coach Kathy Sites said. “We have a long way to go, but this is an excellent starting place and good things are going to happen with these teams.”
GIRLS: St. Marys’ Kristen Dammeyer won the girls 1600 meter run with a 5:48.77 time along with being a part of two third-place relays and a fourth-place finish in the 800 meter run with a 2:39.73 time. The St. Marys girls 400 meter relay team of Makayla Buehler, Rachel Meier, Stephanie Evans and Bailey Gottschalk finished second with a 54.34-second time. The Riders’ Amanda Dues took second in the 3200 meter run with a 13:02.26 time.
BOYS: St. Marys’ hurdlers turned in the Rider boys team’s top finishes. Luke Lemmerman took second in the boys 110 meter hurdles with a 17.3-second time. Brennan Brown was second in the 300 meter hurdles with a 43.1-second time. St. Marys’ Det Mines finished third in the 400 meter dash with a 55.95-second time and was part of two fourth-place relay teams. Jaden Heitkamp tied for third in the high jump by clearing five feet, four inches. Nick Durkee took third in the 3200 meter run with a 10:27.77 pace.
Minster Wins Versailles Boys Invitational
VERSAILLES — Minster won the orange division title and New Bremen took second at the Versailles boys invitational on Saturday.
Minster winner were the 3200 meter relay team (8:30.33), Chad Stoner in the 110 meter hurdles (17.15), the 800 meter relay team (1:35.89), Dominic Slonkosky in the 1600 meter (4:40.76), the 400 meter relay team (46.12), Korey Schultz in the 400 meter dash (52.11) and 200 meter dash (24.09), Alan Tebbe in the 300 meter hurdles, Eric Dahlinghaus in the 3200 meter run (10:29.46), the 1600 meter relay team (3:42.94), Wes Hegeman in the shot put (47 feet, 4.75 inches) and A.J. Huelsman in the pole vault (12 feet, six inches).
Second-place finishers for New Bremen were the 3200 meter relay team (8:59.4) along with Garrett Westerbeck in the 110 meter hurdles (17.77) and the 300 meter hurdles (44.0).
New Knoxville’s Andrew Mackie had four top-three finishes to help the Ranger boys track and field team to a fifth place finish in the orange division at the Versailles boys track invitational on Saturday. Mackie won the 100 meter dash. Mackie finished second in the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. He also took third in the high jump.
The Rangers’ Isaac Kuntz finished fourth in the 1600 meter run and fourth in the high jump. New Knoxville’s Jacob Shaw took fourth in the 3200 meter run.
