St. Marys freshman Carter Bowman shot a 76 on Thursday at the Division II sectional tournament at Country Acres to advance to the district tournament.

KALIDA — St. Marys freshman Carter Bowman advanced to the district tournament by firing a 76 for the Roughriders at Country Acres on Thursday.

The Riders finished fifth as a team with 350 strokes.

Along with Bowman’s 76, St. Marys’ Will Paulus shot an 88, Austin Riggs shot a 91, Alex Dammeyer had a 95 and Colin Burke shot a 100.

Napoleon won the sectional with a 312, Defiance took second with a 320 and Liberty Benton captured the third and final advancing spot with a 329. Van Wert finished fourth with a 330.

Division III at Hawthorne Hills

LIMA — The Minster boys golf team finished second at the Division III sectional contested at Hawthorne Hills on Thursday to move on to the district, while New Bremen’s Darin Bergman and Tyler Nosek both advanced as individuals.

The district tourney will be at Stone Ridge in Bowling Green next Thursday.

Minster shot a 321, second only to Lima Central Catholic’s 302. Parkway also advanced with a 322 and a third-place finish.

New Bremen missed advancement by just two strokes after firing a 324 team score.

New Knoxville took 10th with a 390.

Minster’s Austin Fischer finished second individually with a two-over par 74 for the Wildcats.

Right behind him was New Bremen’s Darin Bergman, who fired a 75 for the Cardinals.

New Bremen’s Tyler Nosek also punched his card for the district with a 78.

For Minster, Xavier Francis and Matt Wuebker each added 81s. Freddie Purdy shot an 85. John Burke had a 95.

Lima Central Catholic’s John Kidd led all golfers with a three-under par 69 score.

Western Buckeye League Tennis Meet
LIMA — The St. Marys girls tennis team advanced at three positionis into the semifinals of the Western Buckeye League tournament on Thursday on the UNOH campus in Lima.
1st Singles: Wapakoneta’s Mackenzie Klock ousted St. Marys’ Mariah Krugh 6-0, 6-2, at first singles.
Klock, top-seeded Shawnee’s Lauren Rovner, Celina’s Samantha Manci and Bath’s Emily Ruhe advance to Saturday’s semifinals.
2nd Singles: St. Marys second singles player Alex Spencer advanced to Saturday’s action with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Wapakoneta’s Shelby Gillespie.  Spencer, the third seed entring the tournament, will now face second-seeded Brianna Beougher of Celina on Saturday for a championship match berth.
Van Wert’s Jenna Waterman and Shawnee’s Nora Shaheen, the top-seeded player, will play in the other semifinal match.
3rd Singles: St. Marys’ Katie Peterson advanced at third singles for the Roughriders with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Elida’s Lauren Greenley. Peterson, the third seed, will now face second seed Issabelle Baird of Shawnee in the semifinals.
Katie Etter of Van Wert and Celina’s Emily Zender face off at the the other third singles semifinal.
1st Doubles: St. Marys’ first doubles duo of Allie Zimmerman and Ariel Dodson advanced with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Elida’s Klaus and Kesler. They will face top-seeded Manci and Kerr of Celina.
2nd Doubles: St. Marys’ Emily Brown and Priscilla Dodson were downedElida’s Hurst and Savage at second doubles, 6-0, 6-2 on Thursday.

Volleyball: Marion Local 3, New Knoxville 0

NEW KNOXVILLE – Despite improving every set the New Knoxville Rangers volleyball team just couldn’t overcome the serving of the Marion Local Flyers as the Flyers won 25-10, 25-19 and 25-22 Thursday in a MAC contest at New Knoxville.

Stat leaders for New Knoxville:  Haley Dillon 7 kills, 1 block; Meg Reineke 7 kills, 4 digs; Taylor Niemeyer 6 kills, 2 digs; Paige Lehman 6 kills, 10 digs; April Cain 2 kills; Haley Horstman 2 kills, 9 digs, 25 assists; Kalyn Schroer 24 digs ; Abby Rohrbach 7 digs.

Stat leaders for Marion Local: Margaret Wuebker 10 kills, 3 blocks; Claire Heitkamp 6 kills, 3 blocks; Gina Kramer 4 kills; Laura Schwieterman 12 assists, 2 aces; Katie Elking 15 assists, 3 aces; Josie Winner 6 kills, 6 blocks; Brianna Hess 7 kills; Megan Wendel 25 digs; Clara Wuebker 3 aces.

In the JV match the Flyers won 25-13 and 25-14.

The Rangers (7-7, 3-3) participate in the Van Wert Invitational on Saturday. They will play Versailles in the first match at 9 a.m.

Volleyball: New Bremen 3, DSJ 0
NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen volleyball team  won its first Midwest Athletic Conference match in three seasons, downing Delphos St. John’s 25-16, 25-18, 25-18, on Thursday night. Haley Moeller had 16 kills, two aces, and 20 digs. Victoria Wente and Julie Brown added another 10 and nine kills, respectively. Meagan Brandt had 23 digs and Karli Jones had 35 assists.

Volleyball: St. Marys 3, Defiance 1
DEFIANCE — The St. Marys volleyball team defeated Defiance,   25-20, 18-25, 25-21,  5-15, on Thursday. Jenny Brown had 15 kills and 8 blocks to lead St. Marys.
 Joni Brown had 29 assists, and Cierra Anderson had 16 digs.   St. Marys improved to 11-4 and 3-2 in the WBL.

Parkway 3, Minster 1
ROCKFORD — The Panthers downed Minster in MAC volleyball play on Thursday night, 25-14, 20-25, 25-9, 25-18.
 

Soccer: Sidney Lehman 5, New Knoxville 4
 NEW KNOXVILLE — Matteo Ceroni scored two goals for the Rangers, and Isaiah Oeding and Riese Fiegel added goals for New Knoxville.
