Thursday Sports Round-Up
SAINT MARYS – The St. Marys volleyball team rolled to 3-0 win on senior night, knocking off an injury-plagued Wapakoneta Redskins 25-6, 25-23 and 25-12 in a WBL match played on Murotech Court.

“The seniors have put in so much effort this year,” Riders head coach Monica VanderHorst said. “We will have Ottawa-Glandorf on Tuesday so we will have to get back up for that and then go to Van Wert on Thursday we could finish well in the league. It is a good confidence builder for the kids and they get the feeling that they can win and carry that on to the tournament.”
Erika Angstmann led St. Marys with 22 kills and three aces. Reagan Aller added 11 kills. Natalie Kuenning had 36 assists and four aces. Mallory Kill had 24 digs.
“We are plagued with major injuries right now in some of our key positions,” Redskins head coach Amy Ruppert said. “We have people who we have thrown in off the bench and they are playing in positions they are not accustomed to.”
St. Marys is 10-10 on the season.
ST. MARYS 3, O-G 0
OTTAWA — The St. Marys boys soccer team is a win away from an outright Western Buckeye League championship. The Roughriders trekked north and shut out Ottawa-Glandorf 3-0 on Thursday to move to 6-0-2 in WBL play. St. Marys hosts Van Wert on Thursday, Oct. 10. A win would give St. Marys the outright league title for the first time in program history. Zach Lemmerman, Zack Wilker and Patrizio Martinez scored goals for the Roughriders in the victory over the Titans. St. Marys improved to 10-1-3 on the season. St. Marys goalkeeper Stuart Yahl and the Rider defense shut out an opponent for the sixth straight match, a streak dating back to Sept. 14.
LCC 1, ST. MARYS 0
LIMA — Lima Central Catholic’s Sydney Santaguida scored the lone goal in the T-Birds’ 1-0 win over the St. Marys girls soccer team at Lima Stadium on Thursday night. Both teams had eight shots on goal. LCC’s Madison Stolley made eight saves while Roughrider goalkeeper Hailee Andreoni had five stops. St. Marys is 7-4-2 on the season. The Roughriders host Fort Jennings next Monday with a 7 p.m. varsity start before traveling to Van Wert on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. Western Buckeye League match. St. Marys is in third place in the WBL at 5-1-2. The Riders need a win against Van Wert, a Celina loss and a Bath tie or loss to get a tie for the WBL title.
DIVISION II at FINDLAY
FINDLAY — St. Marys’ Carter Bowman ended his junior golf season with a 79 in the Division II district tournament at Red Hawk Run on Thursday. Bowman finished one stroke back of a state spot, as Liberty-Benton’s Jared Neiling shot a 76 and Jared Powell of Galion and Joey Porter of Port Clinton, who both shot 78s. Powell won a playoff to advance to the state tournament in Sunbury. Bowman had advanced to the district tournament with a sectional title last Thursday. Lima Bath punched its ticket for state as a team, led by Brady Garver’s 78 with a 327 team score. Bellevue took second with a 332 score and will also go to state in Division II.
DIVISION III at BG
BOWLING GREEN The Minster boys golf team finished seventh at the Division III district golf tournament at Bowling Green on Thursday. The Wildcats shot a 339 team score at Stone Ridge. Ottawa Hills won the district title with a 312. Ashland Crestview, Van Buren and Lima Central Catholic (331) also will advance to state. John Burke led Minster with an 82. Xavier Francis fired an 83. Freddie Purdy and Austin Brackman each had 87s. Matt Trushaw shot an 88.
COLDWATER 3, NEW KNOXVILLE 0
COLDWATER – Coldwater swept the New Knoxville volleyball team in three sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-18, at the Palace in Coldwater on Thursday. Madison Lammers led New Knoxville with 10 kills. Meg Reineke had six kills, 15 digs and 10 assists. Haley Horstman added three kills, 15 digs and eight assists. Kalyn Schroer had 33 digs, and Abby Rohrbach had 20 digs. Kenzie Schroer added a kill, four assists and 11 digs.
Both the Cavaliers and Rangers moved to 4-3 in Midwest Athletic Conference play.
New Knoxville hosts Lincolnview on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
MINSTER 3, DSJ 0
MINSTER — The Minster volleyball team rolled to a 25-17, 25-13, 25-17 win over Delphos St. John’s on Thursday in MAC play. Megan Kaiser put down 12 kills to lead Minster, while Sara Hosey added 10 kills. Erica Oldiges and Lauren Roetgerman both ahd five kills. Regan Hahn added four kills to go with her 26 assists. Cassie Jutte added 28 digs. Minster improved to 2-5 in the MAC. The Wildcats travel to Spencerville.
ST. HENRY 3, NEW BREMEN 1
ST. HENRY — St. Henry knocked off the New Bremen volleyball 25-17, 26-28, 25-11, 25-12 on Thursday in Mercer County. Julie Brown had 11 kills and 10 digs. Devon Heitkamp had nine kills and eight blocks. Karli Jones led the way with 29 assists.
MARION LOCAL 3, PARKWAY 0
ROCKFORD — The Flyers stayed perfect in MAC play at 7-0 with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-19 win over Parkway. Gina Kramer again led Marion Local with 17 kills. Hannah Heitbrink and Brooke Winner each had eight kills. Marion Local is 19-0 overall.
