ST. MARYS 4, KENTON 0: St. Marys led just 1-0 at half of its Western Buckeye League opener against Kenton, but the Riders scored three times in the second half to emerge with a 4-0 win on Thursday.

“We’ve got a target about this big,” St. Marys head coach Dave Ring said while making a big space with his arms. “We’re still getting used to everybody going after us and not giving us a pass.”

St. Marys is 2-0, 1-0 in the WBL.

St. Marys peppered Kenton with shots, but had a hard time finishing for the first 50 minutes of the match.

“We hit the crossbar  or post at least four times,” Ring said. “We generated a lot of scoring opportunities. Everything is there, but we did not play with composure. Having a game cancelled earlier in the week took us out of sync and we’re going to work on that. We’re still young. We’re still starting two sophomores and two freshmen.”

Things opened up in the second half with Brennan Brown, Zac Nelson and Nathan Wilker scoring goals for the Riders.

ST. MARYS 4, BATH 1: The St. Marys girls tennis team won the final four positions to defeat the Bath Wildcats, 4-1, on Thursday. St. Marys improves to 5-2, 3-1 in the Western Buckeye League with the win. Bath’s Emily Ruhe picked up Bath’s lone win at first singles over the Roughriders’ Katie Peterson, 6-1, 6-0. St. Marys’ Emily Brown won second singles over Bath’s Dana Wagging, 6-2, 6-0. The Riders’ Anna Ernst won third singles over Grace Smith, 6-0, 6-0. St. Marys’ Ariel and Priscilla Dodson won over Ashlynn Viera and Jordan Haller, 6-1, 6-1, at first doubles. St. Marys’ Abby Wilker and Halie McGee defeated Maddie Helming and Madison Poff at second doubles, 6-0, 6-1.
