Thomas D. Knous, 71

Thomas D. Knous, 71, of 705 Kimberly Drive, St. Marys, died at 1:04 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Lima Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 15, 1941, in Coldwater, the son of John and Alethea (Overly) Knous.

He married Barbara Ann Arnold on May 13, 1961, and she survives at the residence.

He is also survived by his two children, Thomas (Ruth) Knous Jr. of St. Marys and Christine (Travis) Kuenning of St. Marys; by four grandchildren, Tom “Boog” Knous, Tyson “Buck” Knous, Natalie “Nat” Kuenning, Travis “Bo” Kuenning, II. He is survived by two sisters, Naomi Krogman of Celina and Audrey Schlotterer of Celina.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; by two brothers, Robert and John Knous; by one sister, Norma Hoenie.

Tom was a 1959 graduate of Coldwater High School. He was one of the early pioneers of rock and roll music, having been the drummer for “Roscoe and the Little Green Men.” He was inducted into the Minnesota Rock and Country Music Hall of Fame for his contributions to the rock music genre. He later worked as a drummer with various local bands.

Tom was the owner and operator of Carpetman Carpet Store in St. Marys; he was also a school bus driver for the St. Marys City Schools for many years. He was a member of the North American Fishing Club and the Roughrider Touchdown Club; he was a charter member of the St. Marys Optimist Club. He was a volunteer for many years for the St. Marys City Schools “Hooked On Fishing Program.”

Funeral rites will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, the Revs. Jess King and David Brewer, officiants.

Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to the St. Marys City Schools “Hooked on Fishing Program.”
