Thomas A. Broyles, 72

Thomas A. Broyles, 72, of Ottawa, and Wildwood, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014. Tom was born in St. Marys, the son of Warren and Virginia (Fischer) Broyles. Both sides of his family came from Germany.

Tom began his pharmacy career in 1957, working in a local pharmacy in St. Marys.

He graduated from St. Marys Memorial High School in 1959 and from Ohio Northern University with a BS Ph in 1963. He was a member of Phi Mu Delta, serving on the inter-fraternity council. Tom was a past member of the St. Marys Jaycees, Kiwanis, Electrical examination board for 10 years, Northwestern Ohio Pharmacy Association, Ohio Pharmacy Association, Foxmeyer wholesaler advisory board, St. Marys Outing Club (Idlewild), lifelong member of North Wayne Street Methodist Church and belonged to the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce, IOOF lodge, Kiwanis, American Pilots Association and the NRA.

Tom and his wife, Linda, moved to Ottawa in 1986 and purchased Hawkey’s Pharmacy from Bea and George Hawkey, where they worked side by side until they retired in 1999 and began wintering in Florida.

Tom enjoyed mentoring to pharmacy students, flying, fishing, golfing, woodworking, having a beer at the Bomb Shelter with his buddies and spending time with his neighbors, friends and family. His hopes were that he contributed in some small way to a make better world.

Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Linda, six children, Richard and Greg Broyles of St. Marys, Mark Nolan of Mendon, Stephanie Heimann of Findlay, Lori Nave of Celina, Paul McKinney III, of St. Marys, a brother, Edward, a sister, Deb Mohr, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara.

Tom’s family and friends will celebrate his life in the near future in the Magnolia Room of Continental Country Club, Wildwood, Fla., and also this spring in Ottawa and St. Marys.
