TENNIS: Riders win at every position against Elida

ELIDA — The St. Marys boys tennis team got above .500 in Western Buckeye League play with a 5-0 clean sweep of Elida on Friday night.

“It was our best match as a team throughout the line up this season,” St. Marys head coach Bill Ruane said.

Troy Newlove won first singles for the Roughriders over Elida’s Ardie Sayoto, 6-3, 6-1.

St. Marys’ Cole Brooks won second singles over Elida’s Chris Ellison, 7-5, 6-0.

The Riders’ Jason Freewalt won third singles over Aric Thompson, 6-1, 6-2.

The St. Marys first doubles team of Kevin Dammeyer and Josh Parker defeated Elida’s Jordan Greely and Nick Kempton, 6-1, 6-4.

St. Marys’ Tyler Parent and Jacob Little won second doubles over Elida’s Chris Reyes and Asu Swihart, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

St. Marys will compete in the Piqua Invitational Saturday.
