Teens Vie For Crown

August 10, 2012

NEW BREMEN — Eleven young women displayed their creativity and intelligence to a packed James F. Dicke Auditorium Wednesday night in hopes of being named the 2012 Bremenfest Queen.

The annual Bremenfest Queen Pageant featured a slew of talent in which contestants were judged by a panel of six judges on an introduction, a talent, a corporate sponsor promotion, an interview and a final walk through.

Elizabeth Alt, daughter of Dean and Lois Alt, said she enjoyed creating her commercial for her sponsor, Forty-Nine Degrees. Alt spoofed DIRECTV commercials, showing the consequences of not using Forty-Nine Degrees.

“Making the commercial was the most fun for me,” she told The Evening Leader.

Even if she is not named the 2012 Bremenfest Queen, Alt said the experience has been rewarding.

“It wasn’t about being named queen, it’s about having fun with friends,” she said.

Chelsea Russell, daughter of Jon and Elaine Russell, also noted she has enjoyed the company of the other contestants and said they have grown closer.

“I knew everyone because they’re in my class, but this has definitely made us closer,” Russell said. “It was fun.”

Russell said she signed up for the pageant because she thought it would be a good experience.

“I just thought it would be so much fun,” she said. “I thought it’d be fun to come out here and do my thing.”

For her talent, Russell performed a cooking comedy skit, in which she and a friend showed the audience how to bake a chocolate cake. Being on the stage and performing, Russell said, has been a highlight.

“Just being up here and doing this in front of everyone,” she said of the best part of her experience thus far. “I’ve also had a lot of fun with all the girls.”

Other contestants competing for the crown included Miranda Paulus, daughter of Mike and Teresa Paulus, Audrey Selby, daughter of Brad and Jill Selby, Madison Barlage, daughter of Kevin and Cindy Barlage, Jill McClurg, daughter of Mark and Janet McClurg, Emma Hall, daughter of Doug and Cathi Hall, Christina Adams, daughter of Ron and Brenda Adams, Paige Miller, daughter of Bruce and Sharon Miller, Haley Moeller, daughter of Gary and Amy Moeller, and Caitlin Pence, daughter of David and Shannon Pence.

The 2012 Bremenfest Queen and Little Miss Bremenfest will be crowned at the Bremenfest opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. Aug. 17 at Crown Pavilion.
