ST. MARYS — A local tavern will hold a fundraiser this weekend to benefit the an Ohio charity.
The Friendly Tavern, located at 115 S. Main. St., St. Marys, will be selling chicken dinners and holding a doubles pool tournament on Saturday to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Miami Valley Region.
Friendly Tavern employee Sondra Thatcher said chicken dinners will cost $7 per dinner and will be served starting at 3 p.m. Saturday and will continue to sell until they are gone.
Presale tickets for the dinner are available by calling Thatcher at 419-953-7312.
“I highly recommend getting presale tickets,” Thatcher said.
The doubles pool tournament will start at 7 p.m. Saturday and will cost $20 per team or $10 per person.
Thatcher said the Friendly Tavern is hosting the charity event because of the help the Ronald McDonald House has provided area residents.
“We’re doing this because my son and daughter-in-law stayed there and they were treated really well, so they’d like to give something back,” Thatcher said.
She noted that the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Miami Valley Region helps many families, including the owners of the Friendly Tavern, Mike and Loretta Aquaro.
“The owner has a niece that stays there every three months,” she said.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Miami Valley Region “provides a temporary home-away-from-home for families of critically ill, hospitalized children and supports efforts that improve children’s health within our region,” according to the organization’s website.
According to the website, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Miami Valley Region served 468 families in 2011, with a total of 3,681 nights of occupancy and 7,989 bed nights. A total of 940 adults and 193 siblings of hospitalized children used the services in 2011.
According to the website, 275 families were turned away because of a full capacity in 2011.
In addition to raising money for the Ronald McDonald House, the Friendly Tavern will also be collecting item donations that are on the organization’s wish list.
“If anyone would like to donate something off the wish list, they can bring it here on Saturday,” Thatcher said.
Items on the wish list include, travel size toothpaste and toothbrushes, toilet paper, tissues, laundry detergent, dishwasher soap, trash bags and disinfectant wipes. For the complete wish list, visit RMHCDayton.org/wishlist.php.
