SWIMMING: Area teams have top five individual finishes at Wapak-Celina Invite

CELINA — Area individuals had big days in the pool in the large Wapakoneta-Celina Invitational at the Auglaize County YMCA on Saturday afternoon.

The St. Marys boys finished seventh with 100 points. The Rider girls took ninth with 57 points.

Celina’s boys took second place with 202 points, trailing only boys champ Ottawa-Glandorf (230 points). Celina’s girls finished third with 207 points. Shawnee won with 306 points and LCC finished second with 214 points.

Minster’s girls team finished sixth with 74 points.

New Bremen’s girls team  took 10th with 33 points. The boys squad finished 11th with 32 points.


St. Marys boys top five finishers

St. Marys crowned a winner in Jared Deubler, a state qualifier from a season ago. Deubler won the boys 100 yard backstroke with a 58.93-second time.

St. Marys’ Matt Hollman had a big day in the pool. He finished second in the boys 100 yard breaststroke with a 1:08.10 time in the finals. Hollman turned in a fifth-place finish in the boys 100 yard freestyle with a 54.47-second time.

The St. Marys boys 200 yard medley relay team of Jared Deubler, Hollman, Dakota Braun and Taylor Grant finished third with a 1:50.95 time.

The St. Marys boys 400 yard freestyle relay team of Deubler, Braun, Taylor Grant and Hollman finished fifth with a 3:51.87 time.


St. Marys girls top five finishers

St. Marys’ Molly Hertenstein took fifth in the girls 200 yard individual medley with a 2:31.81 time.

The Riders’ Molly Menker finished fourth in the girls 100 yard butterfly with a 1:07.69 time in the finals.


New Bremen boys top five finishers
New Bremen’s Brandon Meyer finished fourth in the boys 100 yard butterfly with a 59.42-second time.

Minster girls top five finishers

Minster’s Nikki Borgerding finished second in the girls 500 yard freestyle with a 5:53.93 time and was also second in the 100 yard backstroke with a 1:13.03 time.

The Minster girls 200 yard freestyle relay team of Kara Kitzmiller, Claire McGowan, Leah Niekamp and Nikki Borgerding finished fourth with a 1:53.75 time.
