NEW BREMEN — Close your eyes during the Beatles Tribute concert in New Bremen June 16, and you’ll swear you were in Shea Stadium in 1965, said Scott Frey, Southwestern Auglaize County Chamber Director, about the summer concert series set to start at 7 p.m. Sunday with the band Simple Harmony in Minster.
The summer concert series started several years ago to provide Sunday evening music.
“It’s the quintessential, bring-your-lawnchair summer entertainment,” Frey said.
This year, he said, the chamber tried to mix musical styles to draw a diverse crowd, with music from the 1950s to the 1980s that is family friendly.
While the event still brings out local bands, regional musicians and musicians from around the state will also be featured, including that Beatles tribute band Frey discovered.
“When we book we want to appeal to wide audience,” he said, and music that is appreciated by many generations, like the Beatles, helps that he said.
Also, some groups will bring their own fans that travel to their concerts, like Appalachian Grass, a bluegrass band from Wapakoneta. The concerts draw between 200 and 400 people.
“That brings people from outside the Golden Triangle into town,” Frey said.
