MINSTER — Zach Wilker worked out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the first inning, tip-toed out of another  tight spot in the second inning and then never looked back.

Wilker tossed a five-hit shutout and St. Marys needed just three hits in a 1-0 win over Fort Loramie on Friday night in loser’s bracket game in the district ACME tournament at Hanover Street Park.

In the second game, Minster stayed unbeaten in district play with a 6-1 win over the Anna Rockets. Minster advances to play on Sunday.

St. Marys, which opened the tournament with a 6-0 loss to Anna on Thursday, bounced back and won the first of its must-win games in the double-elimination tournament. The Roughriders will play in another must-win game today at 1:15 p.m. at St. Henry.

Wilker struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.

St. Marys’ lone run came on a humble passed ball in the bottom of the third inning. With runners on second and third base with two outs. A pitch that ticked off the catcher’s glove that was ball four to Isaac Fitzgerald allowed Jared Knous to slide into home plate for the 1-0 lead and what turned out to be the winning run.

Minster earned a win in the winner’s bracket nightcap over Anna.  The Wildcats scored four runs in the third inning with an RBI double from Matt Trushaw, a fielder’s choice groundout by Drew Ripploh, a Blake Ahrns RBI opposite-field single and a sac fly by Josh Nixon.

Minster scored a run in the fourth when John Baumer hit a chopper over the mound for an infield single that scored Clay Brown from second base.

Minster tacked on the sixth run in the fifth when Josh Nixon walked, moved to second on Brandon Hoying’s sac bunt, went to third on Brad Walterbush’s single and came home on Trushaw’s sac fly.
