St. Marys' Heitkamp wins regional pole vault title, headed to state

St. Marys senior Kelly Heitkamp cleared 10 feet, eight inches and won the Division II regional championship in the girls pole vault on Saturday at Lexington.

Heitkamp, who is the school-record holder in the event, will return to the state tournament for the second straight year. In 2012, Heitkamp finished 12th a season ago with a vault of 10 feet.

St. Marys junior Kristen Dammeyer finished sixth in the girls 3200 meter run with a 12:08.72 time.

St. Marys junior Amanda Dues finished ninth in the girls 1600 meter run with a 5:36.37 time.

The Roughrider girls finished 15th in a 38-team field at Lexington with 14 points. Liberty-Benton won the girls regional title with 65 points. Celina took second with 53.3 points. Coldwater was third with 49 points.

Celina’s 1600 meter relay team of Gina Strable, Kendra Fennig, Bekah Carr and Michaela Wenning finished second with a 4:03.14 time.

Celina sophomore Bekah Carr won the girls long jump (17-7.5), finished second in the girls pole vault (10-4) and was sixth in the 300 meter hurdles (47.72).

Celina junior Michaela Wenning finished third in the 300 meter hurdles (47.29) and  fourth in the girls 100 meter hurdles with a 15.34-second time to go along with her second-place finish in the girls high jump earlier in the week.
