ELIDA — Lima Bath defeated the St. Marys girls soccer team 1-0 in a Division II district final match at Elida on Saturday afternoon.

St. Marys bows out of the tournament with a 13-2-4 record.

"It's always disappointing when you lose in a district final match," St. Marys head coach Paul Dingledine said.

Bath scored the match's lone goal with 13:32 left in the first half on a header off a corner kick.

St. Marys defeated Bath earlier in the season 1-0, but Bath since got back its best player in Ali Manley from injury late in the regular season. The Wildkittens have now upset two of the best in the WBL in Shawnee and  St. Marys in the tournament with Manley leading the way.

"We had the unfortunate situation of Ali Manley going down in the first game of the season," Bath head coach Morgan Lashaway said. "She's come back the last five matches and has just been cleared to play all 80 minutes the last few games. She's certainly been a key player to our game and possessing the ball."

St. Marys had a potential tying shot by Ashleigh Falk hit the top crossbar of the net late in the match, but Bath kept the Riders out of the net and will advance to the regional tournament next week at Findlay.

"We knew coming in what Bath was capable and what they had been doing recently," Dingledine said.

The district title is Bath's first in school history.

"It was the first time for us ever making the district final, let alone winning it," Lashaway said. "It's a huge mark for the Bath soccer program."

St. Marys has lost in the district final the last two seasons. Delphos St. John's beat the Riders in a shootout in 2010.
