LIMA — The St. Marys girls bowling team finished second at the Pioneer Classic at Lima’s Westgate Lanes on Monday in a 16-team match play event that features some of the state's best.
St. Marys advanced to the championship round, where they bowed out to champion Coldwater. The Riders got off to a early lead by taking the first Baker gamer, 189-169. The Rider then dropped the next 3 games by scores of 154-169, 179-211 and tied the last games 162-162 but lost the 9th and 10th frame roll off.
St. Marys got to the championship round by knocking off second-seeded Versailles in four Baker games, 193-234, 146-125, 189-160 and 194-192.
St. Marys was third in qualifying and advanced to the eight-team match play bracket. The Roughriders defeated sixth-seeded Wapakoneta to start their run, 203-167, 124-129, 16-139, 159-157.
St. Marys’ Kristen Dammeyer bowled a 630 for the day, the high series for any bowler at the Pioneer Classic. Drew Houser added a 524 series and Abby Smith added a 511 series. Mariah Heffner added a 226 game in the one game that she bowled.
